He quickly developed and demonstrated his skills as a headsail trimmer (jib, spinnaker... which greatly influence the boat's speed), so much so that in 2001 he joined the Alinghi team, with whom he won the Louis Vuitton Cup in 2003, followed by the prestigious America's Cup twice, in 2003 and 2007.

Nils Frei remained loyal to the Alinghi team, playing a pivotal role in victories on the Lake Geneva Decision 35 circuit and the Extreme Sailing Series (aboard a GC32 foiling catamaran) between 2007 and 2016.

As one of Switzerland's most experienced sailors, Nils Frei places particular importance on team values, respect, trust, and communication; his trilingualism is an invaluable asset aboard boats with crews from diverse cultural backgrounds.
