In 1981 and 1982, after earning his mechanical engineering degree from the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, he took part as watch leader in the round-the-world race (Whitbread) alongside Pierre Fehlmann on the boat Disque d’Or 3.

In early 1984, he co-founded the company Decision SA, worked there part-time, and qualified to represent Switzerland at the Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games with Rainer Fröhlich, where they finished in 13th place.

 

Upon returning from the Olympic Games, Bertrand Cardis joined Decision SA full-time. The company specializes in manufacturing composite material structures; over the past 30 years, it has notably contributed to the success of renowned projects, such as partnering with Ernesto Bertarelli to create Team Alinghi's racing yachts, or with Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg on the “Solarimpulse” project.

In 2007 and 2008, he received honors from EPFL and the Vaud State Council, respectively: the “Alumni Award” and the “Mérite cantonal vaudois”.

In 2014, he participated in the creation of Groupe Carboman SA, resulting from the merger of Decision SA and Multiplast SAS in Vannes, where he became Commercial Director and Board Member.
