At the age of 32, he embarked on a solar adventure and completed the first solar-powered round-the-world trip between September 2010 and May 2012. This was the epic journey of the PlanetSolar catamaran. This unprecedented and successful first initiative pushed him much further and much higher, as his ambition is to fly into the stratosphere aboard a solar-powered aircraft, the SolarStratos. A seasoned pilot, no machine intimidates him, and as a true explorer, he is capable of tackling any environment.

Raphaël is an adventurer, but he is also an eco-entrepreneur. He founded a company specializing in solar data hosting, Horus Networks Sarl. This child of the sun is full of resourcefulness; he continuously launches new projects and takes the lead in his expeditions. From 2012 onwards, he began sharing his life story and insights through high-profile keynotes. He became a professional speaker and a member of the Global Speakers Association to better convey a message of experimental and optimistic ecology.

The SolarStratos adventure has been a defining milestone in his career as an explorer and keynote speaker. This mission he set for himself—to reach the stratosphere with a solar-powered aircraft—has already taken four years, and he hopes to reach the stratosphere by 2019.
