She was born on February 10, 1981, in Zermatt, where her parents named her Franziska.
At the age of 15, she began her first races and competed in the Junior World Championships and the European Cup over the following 3 years. In 1999, at the age of 18, she finished fifth in downhill at the Junior World Championships in Pra Loup (France). She excelled in downhill: she also finished third in the Swiss Championships that same year. The public began to take an interest in this promising and engaging young skier who always seemed to carry a smile.
In 2000, in Canada, she won the downhill at the Junior World Championships.
That same year, the skier from Valais made her debut in a World Cup event: an Italian giant slalom (Sestriere) that left a bitter taste, as Fränzi did not finish the race. But the young skier was not easily discouraged and continuously pushed to improve: in 2001, in Verbier, in her home canton, she became Junior World Champion in downhill.

After two World Cup races at the start of the 2001–2002 season, Fränzi broke into the World Cup top 10, finishing sixth in the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden (Germany), followed by a fifth place in Åre. Her first World Cup podium came in 2003: in Austria, at Haus im Ennstal, where she took third place in downhill. 2007 marked another turning point in her career: that year, she achieved her best result at the World Championships.

In 2009, competing against Nadia Styger, Fränzi won the World Cup in the Super-G at Val-d'Isère. However, in 2010, during a giant slalom in Italy, she crashed and suffered a knee injury. As a result, she was forced to withdraw from the Vancouver Olympic Games. The road to recovery was tough: the 2010–2011 season saw her without any top-10 finishes. Yet, this did not stop her from returning to form in 2012 with a fourth-place finish.

In 2014, the Sochi Olympic Games marked her final and best Olympic performance: Fränzi Aufdenblatten finished sixth in Super-G. After securing third place in a World Cup race in 2014, the Swiss skier decided to bring an end to her illustrious career, which had brought her so much joy.
